Frequently Asked Questions
How to prepare for Electrolysis services?
Drink lots of water! If needed take 2 Tylenol beforehand or if you are very sensitive you can use a numbing cream. Do not tan within 24 hours before, you can shave 2 to 3 days before your service to aid your technician in finding the hairs in anagen phase. ( the beginning growth phase of hair, treating these hairs provides the best results.) You can also wax before and set an appointment once your hairs start to re grow. Do not put on heavy scents or lotions before the appointment.
Does insurance cover Electrolysis?
The short answer is some. Many insurance companies exclude electrolysis from their coverage. There are a lot of clients that may have a medical condition that requires electrolysis, such as severe ingrown or prior to vaginoplasty and/or phalloplasty.
Most often trans clients and those with extreme medical issues can and will be approved by their insurance with a Dr referral. We do not have the ability currently to bill insurance companies. We would be considered an out of network provider. This means you would pay us directly and submit an invoice to your insurance company.
Before submitting invoices from us you would need to contact your insurance company and see if they cover medically necessary electrolysis for your personal needs/referral. ( if its prior to surgery (ie vaginoplasty or phalloplasty) the insurance company will need the same documents that were needed to qualify for surgery) Then proved the needed documentation for approval. You may have to fight with them a little but many will still cover it if your Dr states its needed. Once you have prior authorization you can start coming to get work done with the ability to be reimbursed. ( just remember they may at any time refuse reimbursement every with prior authorization.) There has been documented approval from such providers as Nevada Medicaid, Bluecross/Blueshield, Aetna and more.
How Long/Many Sessions Will It Take To Clear My Hair?
This is all dependent on the amount of hair, your hair growth cycles, the size of the area, and the reason for hair growth. Electrolysis is the only form of permanent hair removal, but does take time and patience. Sometimes you will think that you are experiencing regrow, but all your active hair follicles are on different cycles and you will see hairs growing and different time in similar areas. Trust the process. It’s been proven time and time again.
